The 29‑120 Series represents the updated replacement style for sill‑mounted awning window operators. These units are designed to match original performance specifications and must be paired with the correct awning hinge system to ensure proper operation.
Awning window hardware relies on two coordinated components:
-
The operator
-
The hinge system
Both must be correctly matched for smooth, efficient function. For best results, the sash opening angle should not exceed 45°—smaller opening angles improve performance and reduce stress on the operator arms.
The concealed awning hinges used with these operators provide a clean appearance, improved tamper resistance, and enhanced security. Their engineered “drop” motion allows the sash to lower slightly as it opens, keeping the bottom edge aligned with the sill. This prevents upward bending of the operator arms and reduces wear.
Using a long‑arm operator on a short sash height can cause excessive stress because the operator cannot keep pace with the rapid rotation of a short sash. Proper hinge sizing allows the window to counter‑balance correctly, ensuring smooth opening and closing without chatter. If the hinge is undersized, sash weight shifts outside the support arm, causing the window to fall closed and bounce during crank operation.
(Refer to the hinge sizing table for correct hinge selection.)
